Why did Jay Weinberg leave Slipknot?

Slipknot took to their official website to begin the announcement of Weinberg's departure, saying, "We would like to thank Jay Weinberg for his dedication and passion over the past ten years."

"No one can ever replace Joey Jordison’s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey’s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it," the band continued.

"But as ever, Slipknot is intent on evolving. The band has decided to make a creative decision, and to part ways with Jay. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds," it concluded.

The band did not share the exact reason which led to Weinberg's exit after 10 years with the group. The announcement came just a day after Weinberg took to Instagram to share his excitement over how great of a year it has been for him and Slipknot.

"I'm honored to receive the recognition of 'Metal Drummer of the Year' in the 2023 @modern_drummer Readers Poll. Thank you very much to Modern Drummer, the entire MD readership, and everyone who voted!" Weinberg wrote.

"To know that the hard work my big bros in @slipknot and I have put in over these past two years has made meaningful connections with many of you out there is a total gift. Truly thankful for all of you who have spent time with our music," he continued.

"Lars, Art, Brooks, and Dirk — I could never fully express how much admiration and respect I have for each of you. Your work and talents inspire me every day to be the best drummer I can be, and it’s a privilege to be nominated in this category alongside you all," Weinberg added.

"Thank you again for this kind recognition, I sincerely appreciate your support," he concluded.
