Dalvin James Cook (born August 10, 1995) is a running back for the Minnesota Vikings of the National Football League (NFL). He graduated from Florida State University as the school’s all-time leading rusher. The Vikings chose Cook in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Cook went to Miami Central High School, where he met Devonta Freeman, a former Seminole running back.

Deandre Burnett, an NBA standout, is his brother.

Cook didn’t join the football team until his sophomore year, feeling he had little chance of succeeding as a replacement for senior running back Devonta Freeman, who led Central to a Class 6A state championship in 2010.

Coach Telly Lockette used Cook as both a running back and a defensive back. He shared carries with his best friend, Joseph Yearby, during his junior year.

Yearby was the wildcat quarterback on running downs, while Cook was the running back. Cook ran for 1,940 yards and 34 touchdowns on 177 runs as a senior in 2013 and intercepted three passes on defense.
